maths equation if anyone is interested?

  1. i would like to know how i would work out Distance covered in a set time by inputting the front chain drive size (number of teeth) and the rear sprocket size again (tooth number) with ones average speed over a set distance.

    eg. 53/13 and an average speed of 38 mph and wheel diametre to work out how much distance can be covered in 30 seconds.

    I already know my Cadence i now have to try and relate it all to times so i can work out weather or not i'm improving, plus in my Excel i'm hoping it will set me intervals as my fitness improves 30 seconds (accellerations/ 1 minutes / and 2 minute intervals) so i have targets that i can try to reach within the times that the computer says i should be able to achieve working at 40-93% effort.

  2. I'm not sure exactly what you're after, but if you have roll-out distances for each gear, and either rpm or speed, you should be able to work out anything you want.

    For example:

    53/13 has an 8.594m roll-out (from the chart below)
    38mph = 61.142kmh = 61,142 metres per hr = 1019 metres per minute.
    1019/8.594 = 118.6rpm.

    But this is probably unnecessary if you have your speed; although I'm not really sure what you want.

    1 hr = 3600 seconds. So, for your 30 second interval: 3600/30 = 120

    61.142kmh/120 = 0.5095km = 509.5 metres in 30sec at 61.142kmh (38mph)

    38mph for 30 seconds.
    38/60/60*30=0.3167 miles

    thankyou, now my training programs tells me the prefared distance to train over my optimal heart rate and zone setting for the cardiosport the time it should take (targets) the speed i should beable to train at over the set duration of time with recovery times for warm downs periods the amout of watts i should be generating and cadence i should aim to maintain to cover the set distance inrelation to the gears that i have selected to use (fixie).

    now i need to set it all so i can choose the amount of effort i aim to train at from 45% - 100% (fatburning zones / to anerobic ) maybe a calorie counter as well... lol ain't excel fun...

    Close : here is a website that gives distance covered for every turn or pedal stroke : 52x17 = 259.46 inches for each stroke.
    259.46 divided by 12 = 21.62 feet distance travelled for each pedal stroke.

    If you can maintain 80 revolutions per min, for one hour, using 52x17, you will travel 21.62 x 80 (80 rpm per minute) x 60 (number of minutes in an hour)
    = 103,784 feet per hour or 19.65 miles in one hour.
