1. I am extremely proud to annouce the arrival of a new unicycling
website:

_::'BUSTEDUNI.COM' (HTTP://WWW.BUSTEDUNI.COM)_::_
*THE HOME OF UNICYCLE BREAKAGE.

On the homepage it explains what the site is all about.

A couple things:

1. * To kick the site off, we are holding a photo contest. This
contest will last one week, ending at 12:00 am PST January 15, 2005.
There will be one winner as of now, and the prizes will be:
one copy of Spaced Out
one of my Unicyclejester shirts (limited sizes available)
one Muni weekend T shirt (donated by John Foss)
some other goodies (donated by John Foss)

The judges for the winning photo will be: myself, John Foss, Dan Heaton,
Gilby, and the members of Busteduni.com*

*When logged in, members can rate each photo on a scale with 5 choices.
Please rate photos, as it will be the 5th judge!

The winning photo will be chosen out of the three albums on the site
(Busted Unicycles, Busted Bones, and Crashed)

More details on the rules and judging will come later.

Remember this, we will probably pick a creative photo over a bland
one!

*2.* When you add a photo, please add a more in-depth story of it!
Keep the caption that you fill out when you upload a picture short.
Directions on how to add the in-depth caption are in an article....
Click on "About this site" on the main menu to see it.

*3.* Expect the site to expand a bit. I am working on getting a system
where people can enter in if they have broken a particular piece of
unicycling hardware. This will be both amusing and very helpful. The
data could be compiled into some kind of database of breakage of various
products. (Thank you to John Foss for this idea.)

In the future, the gallery may have more galleries such as "Your best
photo", etc. There might even be a video section, although I am not
making any promises.

The site will be fun, and hopefully you will help bring it to life. If
you have ideas, please post them in the designated Busteduni.com
Gallery.

-------

I believe that is all for now!

I hope you like the site, I invested quite a lot of hours into getting
that sucker up. Once again, many thanks to the people who helped me out
in making it, and testing various parts of it.

Later,

Jess

6. Ack! I totally forgot to mention one of the photo contest rules. I
know the real contest guide is coming later, but this is important.

I will ship the prizes out free to the contest winner if they live in
the U.S. or Canada. However, if you live outside us, then you will have
to chip in for the shipping. How much? I'm not exactly sure. Whatever
the cost is to ship the package to Canada, I'll cover. You would need
to pay the rest. I might be a little lenient. I'm just trying to cover
myself from having to spend spend quite a bit of money to send stuff to
Austrailia.

10. Jester, very nice idea for a website, and very nicely implemented. If
I may utter some constructive criticism, I found some of the
text/background combinations a bit difficult to read, e.g. yellow on
blue isn't my favourite (but I don't have a very good graphics card
and light letters on a dark background often appear too thin), and
black on dark blue is almost impossible. I can read the site much
better after pressing CTRL-A. Choosing a high-contrast combination for
the design will work better, at least for me.

But I have a question: what SYSTRAN level did you choose for the
translation (Gold, silver, bronze)? This on-the-fly website
translation is better than any other I have seen, and actually useable
in stead of just funny. Is it expensive?

Oh yeah, it would be nice if there was also a flag to return to plain
English.

After you sign up for an account, if you select "Your Account" form the
left column, then "Themes", you can change the appearance of the site.
I'm sure you'll be able to find a color combination which is easier to
read.

Just for the record, I really like the orange on blue.

Of course not, go for it! There is a web links system on busteduni so
if you want to add your site you can. I think I already added
unicycle.2ya.com.

Quoted message said:

Of course! Please do so.

I agree that there is some issues. They will be fixed soon, so please
just hang in there.

That's not that bad, however my package will be a bit more than a dvd.
2 shirts, a dvd, and some goodies (most likely some used unicycle parts)
from John Foss. But I'll see what the cost is.. I'm just trying to
cover myself.

I am using the 30 day trial right now. I want to see if it is used, and
if it works well. My plan is to start buying the service when the 30
days is up, if people are using it. I'm not sure right now which level
it is on.... I only can put 6 languages there, so it's definititely
not the best level. I think it's probably it's own "trial" level. I'm
not sure. I'll see if I can add English.... although then it will be
trying to translate the English to English so the site address will be
that looong systran address. I would reccomend just going back to the
homepage busteduni.com if you want to get out of it. maybe I'll add a
link that does just that.

This has prompted me to say this:

If you use the translation tool, PLEASE either click "Contact Us" or
make a topic/post in the Feedback forum. This is how I will judge if I
should keep the service. Thanks!

Later,

15. Jess,

Looking good! I already commented about the text/background colors, and
he's working on it.

A note about photo credits. Of course it will be up to the users of the
site to properly attribute photos if they are not the property of the
sender. For example, that cool picture of you on your face on the Salmon
Falls Trail. It appears to be attributed to you, though you mention my
name in the caption. It should say something like "Photo by John
Foss."

Also it should probably not be eligible for the contests. I definitely
don't want to win one of my own shirts, or other stuff I'm trying to get
rid of.... 😄
