Question for RBR Gurus

Look for Samuel Abt's book, 'Breakaway: On the Road With
the Tour de France'. It was written in 1984 and the bulk
of the pages concern themselves with the men's race.
But that was the year of the first women's Tour, and he
spends a fair amount of time describing Marianne Martin's
win in that event.

The first few races were run in conjunction with the men's
race, starting earlier and at a point closer to the finish
than the men. It never really worked and after a few
editions the Tour organization let the event go.

From what I can tell the womens Giro started around 1988 and there was no
Giro 1991 and 1992, so Catherine Marsal wasn't able to return to defend her
title but this is about all I could dig up so far. Probably some Euro sites
out there with all the archives, and riders and stats for those early years,
(80's-95). Kind of interesting going back through time here on a rainy day,
more rain and snow on the way for Sierras.

Well aware of this site, one of my favorites. I saw the book when it first
came out. Its one of the few books out on the ladies tour, actually I know
of none others on Grande Boucle. This is nice showcase but I don't think it
has data for the start lists for all the tours since the beginning till the
present day, let alone how all the races went down. This book looks to start
around 1992. Whats actually in the book is listed here. I like the video for
the 2003 Grande Boucle.

This page lists pretty much what CN lists. CN has comprehensive stats going
back to 1995, but they also list all the Tours and their winners since the
beginning. They just don't have the start list and how the stages went down,
winners and details of the stages. That was more what I was looking for.
Winning magazine has this in the 89 edition, all the details, which I have.
As for the the other years up to 1995, I don't have. Probably a French site
has this somewhere.
