I actually ran across this because I sweat like a proverbial pig when I spin...but several of my classmates commented their concern of germs/colds due to using gym equipment such as spinning cycles.

The problem is sharing a bike or bike-like object with The General Public (The Great Unwashed), and being subjected to their bodily fluids. Perhaps worse, sharing our own precious bodily fluids with the general public. We can share a spin bike with 'em, but we must always deny them our Essence.
Anyhow, using gym exercise equipment might be a good excuse for explaining to one's gf how one came down with The Clap. It's a slight change from the old toilet seat excuse, anyways.
I guess real bikes are healthy in all kinds of ways.
cheers, Tom

When I go to the gym there are rolls of paper towels and antibacterial cleaning liquids all over the place. You are supposed to clean the bike or piece of equipment after you use it. Most people feel they are above this, so the cleaning tools are there for you to use before you get on a bike or a machine. They have gym assistants who go around cleaning the equipment but they certainly cannot keep up with the changes from person to person. The popular machines are always in use and you have to sign up for them. I think this is a great idea in a gym and it leaves you responsible for your own well being.
Before I get on the bike I do not assume the last person cleaned it, or the gym assistants cleaned it....I clean it myself, then again when I finish. It works. If your gym does not have this available to you, I suggest you make the suggestion yourself. Maggie

Not a problem - the human body does not dissolve in water, and lights are available at most good bike shops. Get out there and ride the bike as Nature intended :-)

Yes it is a franchise and its more aggravating to my daughter because she has to sign up for the more popular machines. She likes those eplitical things. The machines where all body parts are moving at a fast pace. I use the bike...and no one signs up for the bikes...and I use alot of the weight machines. The free weight section is always free. Or there is one die hard person in there with an actual plan using them.
I've never been in a gym where the free weights were unavailable to you. Except one gym where the hard core muscle guys go...I would not even go to that room. Those guys are HUGE and they stay in there lifting for hours. I don't think they could ride the stationary bike if they tried. They are all muscle and I doubt they have an ounce of flexibility. But I could be wrong. Maggie

That's because you're not part of the "World of Indoor cycling TM" then :-)
Actually when it's bad enough i retreat to the rollers. I've learned that if I don't ride with excessive speed and rpm's I fall asleep from boredom and fall off the rollers (actually get shot backwards). When on the rollers I prefer AC/DC that always gets me going. :-)

Ok, maybe nature intended us to ride naked, but everyone on that website is young. The girls are "perky" and the guys are buff. Where is the "this is what gravity does to you" website with naked riders? All Good things, Maggie
