perfume just isn't enough and insist on bringing tears to the eyes of
everyone is a half mile radius

Being a person that finds the smell of spray on deodorants generally
worse than whatever it is they're meant to mask, the tendency for males
to coat themselves in clouds of the stuff in the changing room after a
bit of exercise and a shower suggests we could be in pots and kettles
territory here...

Indeed.... and then there are the blokes who seem to think the smell of
stale sweat is manly and attractive to the opposite sex... who are, funnily
enough, *not* attractive to the opposite sex at all ;-)

Are you sure there are such people? Perhaps they just haven't had a chance
to wash/ don't really care what they smell like/ aren't aware that they

I've had a couple of girls remark on how sexy I smell during/just after
exercise (well before it's started to smell). I'd prefer them to say I
_look_ sexy - that would work _all_ the time..

Fresh sweat is not unpleasant - stale sweat - as I originally referred to -
is another matter altogether - it is extremely unpleasant.

Uni's various exercise classes, where considerable sweating gets done by
all and sundry, apparently not..

I suspect that's more down to hiding smells that would be a little less
overwhelming but a great deal more embarrassing to them. Possible
damage to delicate parts in childbirth could perhaps explain why
deliberate nasty pongs are more common amongst women than men.
It could also explain why there seem to be fewer really bad cases
today than of old.

They can be - but this one was one along the A235 (Brighton Road) which is
usually clear since the road is wide enough to accommodate both bicycle and
car, and stretches continuously for a few miles.
