I also bought - organic chicken stock - cheap; frozen artichoke hearts;
grass fed beef hamburger patties; Niman ranch beef stew meat; milk,
cage free eggs, parsley, 3 bottles of Glass Mountain wine, claims to be
from a very fine Napa Winery that rhymes with Spark'em. Any guesses,
you wine geeks?

Hubby is getting a large Circuit City object later, but for tonight I
bought him a potted plant and a TJ's card ($.99, great colors, original
art, very good quality)

Congratulations on getting through chemo! I'm sure this is a great joy
and relief to all. And happy belated birthday to the love of your life!

I go to TJ's occasionally, more to pick up 3-buck Chuck wine and King
Arthur flour than anything else. Parking at the local TJ's (the
University District of Seattle) is an ordeal. That parking garage was
designed for Minis, yet everyone and their monkey tries to shoehorn
their SUV's into it. I could (at least for the next 3 weeks) walk up to
the TJ's from where I'm teaching. Sounds like a good idea, since I'm
about to run out of bread flour...

Congrats to you and happy birthday to the birthday twin of my hubby (who
turned 36 last night) I decided to bring home Tony Romas & made an
el-cheapo packaged Chocolate cake with canned vanilla frosting.
(OK, I know. Don't flame me. We have a 2.8 year old & I was tired)

Hubby has been supporting me financially for over 5 years, working all
day at a tough job, getting up an hour early to dress a recalcitrant 5
year old and put him on the school bus, dressing another obstinate
pre-schooler (3) and taking him to school, coming home from work for a
meal, washing dishes & cleaning up, then putting the two wild children
to bed. Every night. For 7 months. So I can lie around and recover.

One reason why chemo has gone so well for me, besides pure luck of the
genetic draw, is that I've been fortunate to have so much help from
family. And when family started to burn out, hubby got a fat raise and
bonus and said - hire a mother's helper, which I did.

And he's still wiping pre-school behinds and wrastling them into and
out of their clothes every day. The man works all the time, at home and
on the job. He deserves every bit of nice dinner he got.

One thing about dealing with cancer - if you have reasons to stop
thinking about yourself, it seems your treatment goes better. Prayer,
meditation, and being of service to others in whatever capacity you can
- the best prescription. Works on all ailments, minor as well as major.
(And don't forget nice long walks and plenty of rest).

A birthday is a birthday - you celebrated well. Poor hubby's birthday
is a mere three weeks after eldest son's, so he always gets the short
end of the birthday stick. We're always too spent from celebrating the
kiddie's day to organize anything big for hubby. Luckily he's a little
shy and doesn't like crowds, so he swears he doesn't miss it.

Obviously, you both love and care for one another in the best possible
sense.

Congratulations on having your last chemo treatment! I hope you have a
full recovery from your cancer and no recurrance in the future.

I like Trader Joe's myself. They've got some very good deals going.
And I can buy a bag of Basmati rice there for a lot less than my
regular grocery store charges.

No flames here; given that you have a small child at home, he's
lucky he got anything! At least you remembered his special day
and did something nice. I remember DS being that age -- I have a

First, Congrats to you on finishing Chemo, and Happy Birthday to your Hubby.
I suspect your unselfish gift made him feel very loved. I bought my Hubby a
large Circuit City object for his birthday as well! lol

I love Trader Joe's for a lot of reasons. One, the Milton's bread is a good
$1.30 cheaper than the other stores. I love that bread! If you haven't tried
the Multi-grain Milton's, you should. Toasted. With butter and peanut
butter. Or Nutella. But, I digress.... hehe
I like to get the chicken stock there too, as well as the heavy cream and
lots of the veggies. The mixed berries make a quick and easy topping for
waffles or pancakes too, or for a more sophisticated touch, serve with
zabiglione. Yummy.
They used to have these light, crisp orange wafers, but I haven't seen them
in a long while.
Anyway, I am so glad you enjoyed your evening, and here's to many more.

On the first 72 hours after chemo I usually have some appetite, for
non-spicy foods. This morning I made myself french toast and topped
with those mixed berries (sugared!).

God bless those fancy meds, is all I've got to say. It's a myth that
you lose weight on chemo - especially the kind I'm on. MOst people gain
5-15 pounds, and I have definitely fluctuated between 2 and 12 pounds
above my previous weight. Whatever. I'll deal with it soon.

Absolutely! Cruising the isles at TJ's is culinary
inspiration. I shopped at Trader Joes before so many
prepared foods were the norm and still don't buy prepared
food from them... unless it's that mushroom pizza. Yum!
