Why do some people remain slimmer than others? The answer may be in the
amount of time lean individuals spend fidgeting, standing and walking
around compared with sitting still. As Ravussin explains in a
Perspective, a followup study by Levine et al. now pinpoints sitting as
an important culprit of weight gain. Just sitting for 2.5 hours less
each day would result in an extra energy expenditure of 350 kcal/day,
which the authors calculate could translate into preventing the gain of
    extra pounds.

If you rode him with your legs crossed over his neck and steered with your
glutes I bet that would get some attention - (maybe you can post a photo

    Then again ...

He'd take up more than one seat,
He doesn't respond to anything said, at least not in English,
He possibly bites and/or kicks when annoyed

    that, for a horse)

He'd fit right in with the subway commuters!

Shadow responds more to tone of voice and sounds than actual words. So

He does bite when he's playful (which he is scolded for). He paws but

Not at work in the city. although I have contemplated how fun it would
be to have Shadow on campus. He'd like all the green grass and
    attention.

I suspect he mightn't like the train ride in though.
    Then again ...

He'd take up more than one seat,
He doesn't respond to anything said, at least not in English,
He possibly bites and/or kicks when annoyed
and he would smell like a barn-yard (not that there's anything wrong with
    that, for a horse)

He'd fit right in with the subway commuters!

Shadow responds more to tone of voice and sounds than actual words. So
    you're right in that.
He does bite when he's playful (which he is scolded for).

He bites through to FLESH, or he just grabs your sleeve or whatever and tugs?
Our filly does the latter to me sometimes to get my attention.
She's an adorable kid and she knows it.

    Well, the front end, anyway.

The latter. IT's typical horse social behavior. But twice he's gotten
some flesh in there, too. So that behavior, though natural to horses,
    is discouraged with humans.
Bolivar attempted to take my jacket off one day by grabbing the collar
with his teeth and pulling back on it. He nearly succeeded.

Both of the 'boys' are 'kids' too. 🙂

Huh? He couldn't? Sure did look like him doing the riding in those five
    gazillion western movies.
