*doesnt Kris hold the record for 15 feet *

This thread, 'World records?' (http://tinyurl.com/3p9rb), has a quote
from Kris saying his highest drop landed successfully is 5 metres (16.5
feet) onto sand slope and 4.26 metres (14 feet) onto a trail (the
Lobotomizer drop on the North Shore and seen in the extras on Into The
    Thunder Dragon).

  2. I took my new KH29 off a curb that must have been close to 7 inches to a
flat landing and rode out of it! woohoo!

Washington state has exceptionally low gravity. A drop of six inches
    takes about five minutes here.

Now on a mountain bike I'll do 10 feet

  9. That's interesting - I'm much more sissy when on a bike. I've not
really practiced much dropping; I've only landed from about 4 feet and
attempted from up to 6 feet, but on a mountain bike I'd never try more
than a foot or two. The sensation of going face-forward into the
ground, with handle bars and frame cross-bar in
potential-to-get-tangled-up locations, puts me off somehow.

I was never an extreme mountain biker before I started muni, so I've
only got into the mindset of 'ooh, that looks like a fun thing to leap
from' with unicycles in mind. One wheel seems to be a much more natural
way of doing silly dangerous stuff. I can't be the only one to be much
more scared of dropping on two wheels?

I thought you landed on the back wheel when doing a drop on the bike....
then the front wheel comes down next. So why would you go face forward
    into the ground?

  11. Yeah, sorry - you're right. As I said, I'm not a good mountain biker - I
wouldn't think to pull a big wheelie off a drop, as I was invisaging
more the kind of drop you'd just ride straight off, on a fast trail. I
guess you do pull the front wheel up when you take off, so it *is* the
back wheel that hits first (unless you really mess it up). Maybe the
fear of the face-first mentality applies less to landing drops and more
just to simply steep slopes, where the front wheel decending in front of
you makes you lean down into the slope rather than back away from it
    like on a uni.

Bikes are more complicated and covered in hard metal pointy bits than is
    healthy anyhoo.

  12. The biggest attempted and landed is 39". I measured with the
"uni-scale" and then measured my uni when I got home, so I don't know
how accurat that really was. I can almost usually get 30" consistently,
so that is what I'm working on now. I want to go up to 4 feet, maybe 5,
but I have to work on my landings first.

  13. I attempted a 4.5 foot ledge and really messed up my ankle. That was
over 5 weeks ago and my ankle is still a little bit swollen and isnt
back to normal. Im probably not going to do drops over 2 feet ever
again, it just isnt worth it.

the highest drop i've don on a uni is somwere around 4 feet.as usaual,i
didnt want to do anything to my uni.It probally take it,i just want to

  17. bout 6 feet on a skinny ladder that swayed back and forth...
bent the crank on my nimbus 26 and ate some dirt, rolled a while... hit
a stump, a tree, and some pinecones. it was fun, but standing back up
was hard, and after i bent the crank, i didnt really want to try it
    again...

  18. I've rode out of a few 30 inch drops... Not so much when it gets to 36
or higher... I broke a crank in half on a 3 foot + drop in my first 6
months of riding, so I tend to not want to repeat that.

  19. 6'2". thats probably small compared to the big hitters. also probably
the reason for the near destruction of my KH hub.

  20. I still don't see why I should do big drops. Downhill stand-up glide
seems like a lot more fun, plus it's at least 15x harder and actually
    just as extreme.

Really big drops are just plain dumb. You're risking serious injury, and
if you do them regularly, chances are you'll break a bone or get a
concussion or something eventually, especially if you do the kind of
drops you're talking about. Unicycling should not be unnecessarily
dangerous, and it can be very cool, even if you're hardly risking injury
    at all.

My personal opinion is this; "If your wheel isn't turning, you're not
    unicycling!"
