While the tech has evolved, that era highlights a period where the focus was simply on whether the motor worked rather than optimizing every watt via a subscription app.

    Modern systems are seamless, but the early clunky iterations forced a different kind of awareness about battery range and weight. Does the nostalgia for these first generation systems stem from a simpler time before the gear became an obsession with integrated electronics?

    Beyond the hardware, what specific lessons from those first adopters should people keep in mind when buying a modern e-bike?
