  1. When planning a route, it is easy to let one stressful segment dictate the entire experience. For those of us who enjoy the process of building endurance, it can be tricky to balance the desire for a pleasant ride with the reality of a challenging stretch of road. Sometimes a section feels uncomfortable, but that is not always the same as a conclusion that it is unsafe.

How do you decide when to seek an alternative path versus simply adjusting your timing or mental preparation for a difficult segment? If you find a specific part of your ride consistently draining, do you change your overall route planning to compensate for that effort?
