  1. Many riders skip a thorough tyre check before heading out. Waiting until a puncture stops the entire group is a poor way to handle the ride, as debris can be present in the tread. A quick inspection might be used to look for embedded shards or casing damage before starting a trip.

    Integrating a pressure check into this same habit is essential. Over-inflating tyres reduces grip, increases vibration fatigue, and makes the bike skitter over rough pavement. Ensuring the pressure is tuned for the rider weight and surface prevents slides and improves overall comfort. Taking a moment to spin the wheels and visually scan the contact patch can avoid the frustration of a flat shortly after departing.

    What specific debris or types of casing wear do you typically find during a quick pre-ride inspection?

    Beyond the tyres, a quick check of the chain is also useful. A two-minute wipe-down and re-lube of the chain after wet rides extends drivetrain life dramatically and keeps the ride silent.

  2. Mostly just looking for those little shards of glass or flint that hide in the tread and wait for a few miles to slice through. For casing wear, it is worth checking for squaring off or thinning in the center, which can happen faster when there is more weight pushing down on the rubber.
