Casper Pedersen is moving to Uno-X Mobility from Soudal-Quickstep. After eight seasons at the WorldTour level, he brings a lot of versatility to the squad. He can support GC leaders or help out sprinters, which should be a huge asset for their younger riders.
Pedersen has not yet raced the Giro d'Italia, and this move could change how he is utilized in a Grand Tour setting. Does his versatility make him more valuable as a super-domestique or a protected rider at Uno-X?
The value probably leans toward super-domestique. Having a rider who can pivot between supporting a sprinter and a GC leader provides a level of tactical flexibility that is often more useful for a team's overall results than protecting a single rider who might not have a guaranteed win in every stage. It depends on the specific goals for the Giro, but versatility is usually the ultimate weapon for a support rider.
That tactical flexibility is exactly why the move seems smart for Uno-X. If they can use him to pivot between different goals depending on the stage profile, it saves them from committing to a single, rigid strategy. It will be interesting to see if that versatility actually translates to a super-domestique role during the Giro or if they try to give him some freedom for specific stages.
