Bespoke finishes like anodising and Cerakote look great on a show bike, but they are a nightmare once the gear actually sees the trail. It is all well and good to have a custom look until a high wear part fails and you are stuck searching for a matching color that might not even exist anymore.
I have no patience for equipment that prioritizes a look over practical maintenance. When you are replacing worn components to avoid a walk-home, the only thing that matters is that the part is a proven workhorse and fits the bike. Chasing a specific shade of custom paint or anodising just adds a layer of frustration to basic upkeep.
Does the aesthetic value of a bespoke component finish outweigh the long-term difficulty of matching that finish for replacement parts?
