I'll go check it out sometime within the next week and find out most of
this stuff on my own, but most YMCAs usually have squat racks/cages,
right? My guess is that I'd be the only one deadlifting though...
deadlifting is allowed in YMCAs, right? Or would they yell at me?
SOmetimes I drop the bar kind of hard...And, I honestly don't care if
it is, but do YMCAs really attract as many gay people as people like to
joke about? I guess that would vary from city to city and Y to Y...

empty. Another Y I went to didn't have any cage or squat racks at all.

used to go to did not allow DLing because the weights were upstairs

where deadlifting is allowed, where you'll get yelled at once in a while
for dropping your DLs but it's otherwise OK, but they didn't have a

hotel had an arrangement with the Y nearby. The ones I've been to were
well equipped and compared well to Gold's. I've seen some huge people
in them. Squats and deadlifts were something regulars would do there.The weirdest gym I've been to was in Vienna on the top floor of a 5
star hotel (pharma company once placed me there) - it was adjacent to
a "sports" bar that would also sell beer. Unlike American ones these
seemed to consider smoking a part of the fitness program. Not only
that but the cigarette smoke would freely flow into the gym. Nobody
saw it as a problem.A gym I belonged to in the early 80's had a bar in it. I gotta admit, I have
fond memories of finishing up a workout with a couple buddies and killing a
few pitchers afterward. Cigarette smoke is extra annoying post workout,
though. -

You can't really "stay at the YMCA" if it is only a gym.Some used to offer residency as well, including that one in the Village,
I suspect. I was in a lovely Y in Westfield, NJ, and while taking the
five-cent tour, was shown the parts of the building where people used to
live, now used for offices and classrooms and the like.I don't think many Y's offer this service any more - the Y where I
belong never did. -

It was only a few in the big cities- you had to sign a form attesting to
your adherence to Christian principles. I guess that was supposed to keep
the homosexuals out.
