    Some of the stuff on the Trek is a bit better. Your call if it's worth the money. I wouldn't waste my money on a suspension for on that kind of bike,but maybe that is the only way you can buy them these days. A hybrid for the same money with a ridgid fork will likely have better components on it. There are often brands with better bang for the buck than Trek.

    Gooooooooooood point. There's obviously some sort of demand for suspension forks on this class of bike, but it comes at the cost of better spec'ing elsewhere on the machine, not to mention extra heft. Seriously consider a rigid-forked model unless you're really sure that *sproing* will be of use to you.

    Test ride both bikes, and see how you feel on both of them. Have a mechanic around to adjust things, and ask the mechanic questions (he'll have likely built both of those bikes).

    It may come down to fit. The Giant may be a bit longer in the top tube.

    Consider the Giant Flat Bar Road Bike range as an alternative, they have different names in the various markets, CRX-3 is the entry level here in Aus. http://www.giantbicycles.net/au/030.000.000/030.000.000.asp?range=85
