Sigh, one step forward 0.9 steps back. I gues I'll learn a lot during
this SS project but at the moment I'm feeling fairly dumb.
Picked up the 17T BMX freewheel from Hippy, whacked it on the rear wheel
and started working on chain length. Now let me insert a quote from
Sheldon "Chain size is specified by pitch and width. The pitch is the
distance between rollers (1/2" on all modern bicycle chain).". So I run
the chain around the new freewheel only to discover that the chain pitch
doesn't match the sprocket on the freewheel. The chain pitch is
definitely 1/2" so where am I going wrong. I understand chain width can
vary (the chain is from a 7spd road bike) but it seems it is the
length/picth that is the problem, the pitch isn't long enough for this
sprocket.
Hopefully I can drop into Peter Moore tomorrow but would appreciate some
feedback in case I can't get there.
