I have the oppportunity to buy a Motobecane "Super Mirage". the seller says it's from the 80's. It has all original components, never ridden. The tires will need replacing eventually, but otherwise all the parts are there in mint condition:
Suntour derailers, Weinmann sidepull brakes, downtube shifters, nice faux leather grips, and quick release tires with a handy flip-down brake release for removing the tires. Two-tone blue paint job, 54 cm steel frame, 27" tires. Made in France, of course.
I'm 5'8" -- it's just slightly small for me, but I like the way it feels. Then again I'm new to road bikes....
I want it for commuting and also for joining some friends who are more serious cyclists.
He paid $100, wants $200 since he cleaned it up (and it really is in beautiful shape).
I have two kinds of opinion so far: Its way over-priced at $200, OR it's worthwhile for the novelty/collector's item value. Is there anything special about the Motobecane Mirage from thew 80's that makes it a good value ?
