I'm leaving for my walk across Scotland at the crack of dawn tomorrow, and since I'm having trouble posting at the moment I decided to do it now, while the going is good.
It's hard to believe that this day has come round so quickly! It seems like only a month or so ago since I was reading the article in TGO and worrying that I'd never get a place 🙂
Anyway, bye for now, y'all: I hope to see you again in 2.5 weeks. Play nicely while I'm gone, now ;-)

Good luck and have fun. Mind you come home safe and sound with plenty of photos and a TR so we can all 'join' you on the route.

Enjoy your trip - and may the weather up there be like what it's here right now: lots of sunshine. You know we're all looking forward to your report! -- Rudi Winter, Aberystwyth, Wales
Blimey that's early. I thought it always started about 12/13th. Which route are you doing?

Rob: I'm planning roughly Shiel Bridge/Fort William/Kinlochleven/Blair Atholl/up a bit/Edsell/St Cyrus. Or something like that!
(for when you're in the internet cafe in Aviemore?Braemar ;-)...that sounds a bit like a mix of the two routes I did. First time was Oban, Loch Etive, Loch Rannoch, Loch Tummel, Blair Atholl, Glen Tilt, Braemar and out. Second time was Shiel Bridge, Glen Affric, Loch Ness, Drumnadrochit and Ferry across Loch, Aviemore, Braemar and out.

Small technical point, but if the sun's always on your back then you wouldn't actually go very far?? I mean you'd go broadly north, but the whole east - west thing would only work if you restricted your walking to afternoons.

Come on then Bob, your ideas are...? Are there no maps in the RAL library?
T. I'm at the other place, myself. Not now though, I'm at home.
Ah, that Tony Buckley. I'm at home myself (now). No time to peruse maps then! I was going to try and find a well known peak for the picnic lunch. The best I had was Grasmere to High Raise and then down NE to the road again.

Two weeks in the hills...sounds like heaven to me [:-)]
Two weeks of lugging a very heavy backpack along unforgiving Scottish roads and up munros.
.... in boiling hot weather.
Nobody says you /have/ to go up Munros. The old drove roads are a delight on the most part, mind you could well end up bog-slogging along "paths" like that through An Caorann Mor. :-( -- Phil Cook looking north over the park to the "Westminster Gasworks"

Snow forecast for the weekend :-)
There was too but it has all gone from the ridges by now. :-|
And the midges are back :-(
Just back from Loch Ba and not a midge in sight 🙂 There is still a little snow in the crevices on the tops but not a lot. The weather reached 20°C on Saturday although the wind was chilly at times and it was cold at night.
