TIME: You're rolling out a line of South Beach Diet products this
    spring.

R.D.: What appealed to us is that it's not a low-carb diet, although
many associate it with low carb. It's a balanced diet of the right
carbs, the right fats and lean sources of protein. I started in
December and lost 12 lbs. in two months.

    ------

Huh? Talk about being in denial. You cannot possibly spin south beach
to not be low-carb. It is virtually identical to atkins in terms of the
amounts of fats, proteins and carbs. The main difference being the
kinds of fats. South Beach trumpets non-animal fats.

OTOH, he is actually admitting that a confirmed low-carb diet, the
south beach diet, is, in fact, a healthy and balanced diet. And he also
confirms that it works. He's lost 12 lbs. in two months.

These guys, who make a living sellings billions of dollars of refined
carb [censored], sure are entertaining to watch as they try to rationalize
their place in the food world.

  2. The first sentence in the South Beach book is "south Beach is not low carb."

And the sentence most people identify with Richard Nixon is probably "I am
    not a crook."

    Your point is?

For those having trouble parsing the above, my point is that just 'cause
someone says something doesn't make it true.

  5. check out the sb diet site:

    http://www.southbeachdiet.com/public/about-the-south-beach-diet/about-the-south-beach-diet.asp

they say: "The South Beach Diet™ is not a traditional low-carb plan."

So now we have a traditional low-carb diet, do we? How is that
possible? From what they tell us, we are led to believe that low-carb
    is just a "fad".

Hmmmm.... a traditional low-carb diet fad? How's that for an oxymoron.
    A traditional fad.

  6. Do SB dieters count their carbs? I've never read the book, thus I'm

  7. I actualy bought the book because the web site confused me a bit. It tells
you to eat a minimum amount of veggies. I wanted clarification. I have not
had time to get into the details of it yet though.. just read the first 2
    chapters.

Have you read both books? There is a world of difference between SB and
Atkins. I've been on Atkins for four years, and my sister is on SB. She
eats way more carbs than I do to the point where I have never considered her
diet to be low carb. The only phase of Atkins that could be compared at
all to SB is Maintenance, and that is the stage where no more weigh loss is
expected or necessary. SB is more of a low-calorie diet than low-carb.
