  1. Is anyone using Minolta Scan Dual with Win XP? If they are, where
    did they find a driver?

As an aside, is anyone else concerned that hardware and software
seems to become obsolete and unusable in rather short timescales?
My film cameras and lenses are the equivelent of an 8086 computer
with a 32 MByte hard drive in age terms but function perfectly.
Anything which plugs into a PC is a hostage to fortune, and some
of that kit is not cheap.

    Try

    http://www.opendrivers.com/categorycompany/16/1580/scanner-minolta-free-driver-download.html

Or try http://tinyurl.com/de4ju if the first link wraps.

There's a whole raft of Minolta drivers there for windows.

I know this has been done to death, but is there a reason that you had
to have Windows XP? What was wrong with the computer you'd used your
scanner with before? PC hardware is actually pretty reliable - the
    occasional hard drive failure apart.

New software doesnt support 98. Photoshop CS and PS plugins for
Pentax RAW, my Pentax software, my memory card reader (claims to,
but is ultra unstable). Basically, buying a new digital camera is
    forcing me to upgrade :-(

Pain, isn't it! What about a dual boot setup?

My new PC using XP wouldn't allow me to use Minolta Scan Dual II
scanner. I got XP drivers from the Minolta site.

I downloaded the latest driver from the Minolta site. The Scan Dual
comes in one of two different hardware types. One of them works on
XP, the other doesn't. I have the latter. But I did eventually get
it to work, sort of, by (1) making sure that the scanner is the only
device connected to the SCSI port , and (2) do not run any other
software, especially Internet Explorer which kills it immediately.
Any other software works to a point but things are liable to freeze so
it's well worth avoiding if possible.

I put up with this for about 6 months before buying an Epson
Perfection 4870 instead, much better scan quality and much faster, and
    works fine with XP.

The Scan Dual has been the only hardware I've ever had become
obsolete. So I'm avoiding anything made by Minolta as they aren't
    interested in their customers.

Ah, a different story, wonder which one mine is? One thing we
should both do is tell Minolta that we are not buying from them
    again.

Ah. Mine's a Scan Dual II. So the info I gave about the hardware
incompatibilities might be wrong - sorry.

Probably worse for earlier! Someone has suggested running in
compatability mode, where you choose the OP to emulate.

yes, my Scan Dual is SCSI.

after more research I have established on Minolta site that early
Scan Dual is incompatible with XP, so i'm sticking with 98 for
the present and buying a EZDigiMagic memory card to CD stand
alone that gets round problems of using the various bits of
soft/hardware (inc Pentax), that dont want to work under 98.
Infanview can handle the Pentax RAW files under 98 and thence to
PS as TIffs. Hopefully. Thanks for all the suggestions.

and I predict that unlike my current film bodies and lenses that
still work earliest with latest than in 5 years time current
digital body owners will be struggling to connect to PCs of that
    time.

Is it something to do with the presence or absence of an ASPI software
layer? I recall having to install ASPI software from Adaptec to get my
Canon FS2710 (also SCSI) working under XP.

I found a compatibility chart here which may be of use:

I'll keep this for future reference.

Oops. I've just looked at it and it's a Dual not a Dual II. So my
    original reply stands!
