I had to put cloches out over the Courgettes to stop them freezing. Very chill at night.

Ouch! Right enough. She couldn't have picked a worse week.
She's going over the Cairn-o-mount and I'd not be surprised if there's snow lying there. She'll have had to battle straight into 20mph winds and hail storms too. Nae fun.

Having consulted a large selection of maps on our dining room table she came to the conclusion that a suggested less traumatic alternative up the coast would probably be the Way Forwards rather than Cairn-o-mount. She was a bit upset at having to "cheat" a little on Thursday because it was a hoolie of a westerly and she was heading (naturally...) west at the time. Sufficiently noxious that she used the train to get into Edinburgh at the end of the day, and to get her started on the Friday to Cowdenbeath.
So she left us suitably breakfasted on Saturday morning aiming up the coast towards Stonehaven. Wasn't too breezy on Saturday, and there was a fair westerly component to what wind there was that would have helped at least as far as Arbroath, but it was not looking too clever yesterday with some fairly serious northerlies and hail :-(
Aside from the brief use of trains noted above to make up for unfavourable winds she was going well and in good spirits.

That would have been one great ride report.. Sensible choice though. The roads into Stonehaven are quite nice.

Went out Saturday night - got caught out in hail/thunderstorm. Took refuge in local A+E ward in Hull which I happened to be cycling past. Coffee not bad.

Fantastic! I'm spending a week in the Cairngorms in a couple of weeks. Winter mountaineering in May. I'll pack my crampons and ice axe. Perhaps I could camp on the Cairngorm Plateau for a night or two and test out my new -15C rated sleeping bag.

There's a webcam on Cairngorm Mountain's website. More snow last night, but not very deep.
