Small group today with the Kew crits on at the same time - Me, JayWoo, Blah and BT. Blah was out on his new frame and feeling a bit out of shape having been off the bike for a while. This was evident from the fact it was the most I've ever seen of him on a BR.
It was a bit cool when we started, around 5 degrees, but that was just arm warmers but no vests weather. By the time we'd got to Kangaroo Ground we'd all warmed up (yay broke 16 mins again) and when we hit Smiths Gully the sun was starting to clear the trees and it was looking pretty nice. We sat outside to catch the sun. After a while (they needed to grow the coffee beans for JayWoo's short blacks) we noticed it was getting a bit cooler and looked around to find we were completely enshrouded in fog. This fog was THICK! And despite coming from nowhere stayed with us all the way back to Heidelberg. I've never got so wet on a ride without rain. By the time we hit Hurstbridge our fingers and toes were numb (hate to think how JayWoo went up to Kinglake). The one benefit was i was so cold I managed to pedal my way to my highest average speed (26.2 kmh) which I was pretty happy with considering there was no Gags train to hitch a lift on. Got home just as the sun came out again and had a very long, very hot shower.

Not a good idea to delay the arrival of caffeine to a caffeine addict... Scary things can happen lady😉 (no FD, it's wasn't 'her'😉.

Freaky! 1/3 of the way up the Kinglake climb I was above the inversion layer and bathing in a sunny blue sky (15 Degs). I passed a huge bunch coming the other way in between 'short & sharp climb' & 'Kinglake climb'. I decided to leave my long fingered gloves, arms, legs & shoe warmers on till Whittlesea as it's mostly down hill. Sure enough on the last big descent into Whittlesea the fog came in and stayed of most of the trip over the flat lands to the township. Though in Whittlesea the sun was out again, so it was off with all the winter gear for the ride back into town.
