Toyota recalls 860,000 vehicles
Toyota is recalling 860,000 vehicles worldwide, including in Australia,
due to problems with their suspension.
The vehicles affected are Tundra utes and Sequoia, Landcruiser Prado and
4Runner/Hilux Surf SUVs built between May 2001 and December 2003,
according to the BBC.
The recalled vehicles are mostly in the United States, though 14,000 are
in Australia.
The company says there have been two minor accidents relating to the
mechanical defect but no injuries have been reported.
The problem relates to a defect in a ball joint, which could make it more
difficult for drivers to steer the vehicle.
Toyota spokesman Peter Griffin says the problem has not caused any
accidents in Australia.
"During the manufacturing process there is the possibility that the ball
joint in the front suspension area may have been damaged and excessive
wear in the ball joint may occur, resulting in some looseness in the front
suspension," he said.
