I would not consider Mikey, his views or his methods, as
representative of more than a handful of environmentalists, just as I
do not consider him as representative of hikers (his "hikes" as
mentioned are only on local parks, and his advice on footwear shows
how unfamiliar he is with serious hiking in most of the world).

Similarly, I do not consider him representative of PhD's,
psychologists, the Sierra Club, or rational people.

He likes to pretend that vast groups of people support him and agree
with him, but none of them actually exist.

Also, he never does anything active other than harangue people.

His only function in the world is to amuse others.

Over here the Government is proposing to introduce compulsory ID cards
as a response to the terrorist threat. I can't help feeling that
giving up invading countries in unstable regions to get their oil
might be more effective in mitigating that particular problem...

Well, in that case, you would be wrong. I think law enforcement definitely
*should* pursue and prosecute environmental terrorists and vandals.

However, comparing environmental terrorists to Christian fundamentalist
terrorists...the "Christians" have a much higher body count, and have
probably done about as much economic damage as well (Oklahoma City, Waco,
Atlanta Olympics, etc.). Thus, my objection to the FBI's labelling of them
as the #1 domestic threat.

It smells like politics to me, given the way the Bush administration panders
to the fundies and big business.

AFAIK, ALF/ELF actions have never resulted in a human death or injury. Of
course, arson is a very serious crime that always carries that possibility
(especially so for fire fighters). They definitely should be investigated
and prosecuted for what are serious crimes.

But, the body count still goes to the Christian terrorists...by far.
