  1. Despite my humiliating defeat at Allegany, the riding has been
plentiful and good. My bread and butter mileage-wise is of course
commuting on the fix, which is a joy each and every day. Recent rides:

    Sunday:
The wife and I hit Allegany again, and this time I whipped off 22
miles, including doing the 1000-foot climb on Paterson twice. I had
tuned up the Fisher on Saturday: new cables, new cassette, new chain,
cleaned and lubed all over. The bike felt great. I felt great. Averaged
9.4 mph on the easy doubletrack, and my wife was right on my wheel most
of the way. She's a monster, that woman.

....a couple of days of rain...

Wednesday, Thursday: 19 miles on the fix before work, six miles home in
the evening, both days. By yesterday evening, my wife was finally
starting to show signs of fatigue. She actually spaced out and
rear-ended me at a stop sign! No harm to anything except her pride.

This morning: Solo, all the way down to the Grand Island Bridge and in
to the office, a 26-miler on the fix, cruising at 18 and averaging
    about 16 mph.

At the risk of sounding like VO2lker, my resting heart rate this
morning was 51. Every mile I ride, I feel more wonderful. I have been
sleeping like a baby, eating like a horse. Tomorrow I'll take a day off
and brew up 5 gallons of IPA and get the singlespeed in shape for the
    trail.

To top it all off, last night I dreamed I went on a long fixie ride
with Marla Streb. She was dressed in a miniskirt and knee-high laceup
    leather boots.

This is so cool I can hardly stand it.

Those boots would have to remain untied to get around those calves.

I've seen fat chicas wearing them, they must make big calf versions or
something. That would be something to see!

And CC, that's great. I know the feeling. You'll be ready for the
    rockies soon enough!

I feel the luv, man. That's the life, and keep it going...

I notice the little roadying I get by commuting has a noticeable impact on
fitness. hadn't been on a trail in about a month, due to a very wet spring.
But jimminy Christmas, I hammered the trails on the SS.
