Maxxis tyres?

I havent seen their road tyres but have used 3 Maxxis MTB tyres with reasonable success.

Mozilla/Thunderbird has a newsreader builtin, I think that
works on MacBSD?

don't buy Maxxis "detonators", they're rubbish! You can get them
from the Pegasus Crew on Beach Rd in Brighton.

I concur on your opinion in the Detonator. They came with my Merida
road bike and the one on the rear lasted about 3 rides before it fell
to bits. I replaced it with a Continental Gator thingy and has been
good so far.

The Detonator on the front wheel is still there because I am a
cheapskate.

However, I have a Maxxis Ignitor on my MTB and it is good.

YMMV.

You should download MT-NewsWatcher from here: http://www.smfr.org/mtnw/

You'll need to tell it the address of your ISP's news server. If you
don't know, you might need to ring or trawl your ISP's support pages.
Or you can guess based on your ISPs domain name, my ISP's news server
is "news.netspace.net.au", and most others are similar.

Then you'll need to refresh the list of groups, subscribe to
aus.bicycle, then you'll be all set.

I believe your settings would be either
news-server.bigpond.net.au (until 1 July 2005 according to bigpond)
or news.bigpond.com. Both are Port 119 (the default)

There is no login to bigpond's news server so
Authentication = no
SSL = no

I've had Maxxis Larsens on my mountainbike for coming up on three years now and my other half has had them on his jump bike for the same period of time. We don't ride off road all THAT much, but they're fantastic tyres.

Paul had Maxxis tyres on his roadie (it came with them) but they were pretty average and ended up with loads of huge splits in them and punctured a fair bit.

Tyres are quite a personal thing, I've found. What works for some definitely doesn't work for others. For instance, I'm a Michelin girl through and through (in more ways than one), but my last set of cheapo Vittorias did about 6,000km without one single flat. I was impressed with that.

I have Maxxis Zephyrs on my Dozer... I've had a bad run of flats lately,
but it's just been bad luck rather than the tyre... for example, I put
in a new tube last night and had difficulty pumping it up and found this
morning that it had a three-way tear near the valve stem. This [censored] me
off as I'm pretty sure it's the kind of tear you get from jabbing your
spare tube with tools in your bag, or something.

I have Vittoria Zaffiro Pro tyres on my Silver Bullet, because our LBSG
gave them to our squad for $22 a pop, really, who can pass that up?
They've done lots and lots of kms but with minimal flats, although
there's a nice flat contact surface now as the tyre develops a square
profile, slowing me down (I can blame it on that if I want to!). However
I race with those nice folding Conti ones that have a skinnier one on
the front and a funky tread. Yes, I realise how lame I sound when I
describe them like that.

I guess different people have different experiences. I did over 5000 km on
a pair of detonators before getting a flat. This was mostly dry weather
riding though.
