God Bless Smith & Wesson. Seriously, I once contemplated defending myself
from the one local eat-your-tendons dog who would come running out of its
yard at any cyclist of any size and speed by using my nice Trek bike as a
club. Then it hit me that I have a perfectly good .357 revolver at home
and a handlebar bag to carry it in. Load a couple of cylinders with shot
shells, followed by solid bullets. Deal with the law later, after NOT
suffering from a severed Achilles' tendon.
I never actually had to use the revolver on the dog. May have been some
sort of cosmic messenger that spoke to the owner about getting a bigger
chain or a better collar for that one bad dog.
By the way, the plan was not to shoot while moving, but to stop and then
shoot. Not sure I could hit the broad side of a barn while in motion.
Probably could hit myself in the leg or foot, though.
It's grand to live in the Rockies! Just thinking these thoughts is
probably a felony on the East and Left Coasts....

Yep. They should have banned cars and trucks from the bridge, since they
can carry far more explosives than bikes. But then that would have
inconvenienced a more influential group.
