I used my HP laptop this past March for a swim meet, and to connect with
the CTS 5, I needed a USB > Serial adapter. The one I used was an
IOGear GUC232A, with the laptop running WinXP SP2. No problems at all.
I will note, though, that unless your console can "speak" at faster
speeds, there's little point to trying. I think MM just opens the port
at whatever speed Windows is set for, but unless you've got a 12-lane,
short course 1650 to download, I've never really had to worry about the
delay. WinXP itself had the driver built-in already, so I didn't need
to do anything special to get it working. Just look at your device
manager to see which COM port the adapter was assigned.
