how to make an 8 spd shamal 10spd compatible?

second option won't work i'm afraid, 10 speed sprockets and chain are narrower than 8 speed so you can't just change the spacers.

i stand to be corrected on first option but i don't think it can be done without replacing the entire hub.

I think you will find that the 10 speed with its narrower spacers is still wider than the 8 speed. You will have to rebuild the wheel with a 10 speed hub.

but isn´t the freewheel body the same for 8 speed and 9 speed ?
and we do know that 9 speed hubs are compatible with 10 speed cassetes .

remember it´s the space between the sprokets that´s different not the width of the entire cassete . ( between 7 and 8 speed yes you need a new wheel but not otherwise - neither campy or big s are dumb enough to limit themselves that badly in the after sales market )
will double check at the bike shop tonight and get back to you monday - Dani broke his colllar bone ina downhill race so his friends are helping out with some of the repairs on the cheap end bikes ( fitted a new crank to one bike and repaired a kids bike , remove chainringcrank to free chain then fit new chain , wendsday evening + assorted puntures , new tyres etc - fun for me but it´s driving Dani to distraction watching people do his work so much slower than he can : looks like he´s got another 6-8 weeks of this but with the guys doing the morning shift and me some of the evenings we´ll cope )

the splines on the cassettes and cassette hubs are a different depth, 8 and 10 speed.

10 cassette and 10 spacers are wider than 8 cassette and 8 spacers. indexing will be wrong as well.

Assuming you already have 10 speed R shifter, F Der., chain, and chain rings. then replacing the hub body on the Shamal might work. Not sure if campy make a compatible hub body in 10spd to work on the Shamal hub (ie changes in the axle and hub body itself). The 8 and 10 speed cassettes and hubs are the same width. 10 spd was made possible by narrowing the chain, cassette, f der, chainrings, and changing the indexing in the shifter. The rear dropout spacing is the same for an 8 spd hub as it is for a 10 spd hub.

what i would like to know is the measurments of that part of the body that goe's into the hub, u know that you can take off the intire body,the part that has the pals,i that part has th wright size ill (try 2) fix it up.

i know the holes diameter is different, thats why i wanna use 8 speed sprockets,just grind the 8 speed rings a bit thinner !

Yes I was right , they are interchangable - tried it with my own hands and it´s a perfect fit 8/9/10 . I´ve also been told , but not shown , that 9 speed cranks/ringsets CAN be used with 10 speed chain but I can´t prove that myself as I´ve not tried it or used a micrometer to check the dimensions .

Ahhh I can't believe no one has done this yet... are you telling me that all those awesome tough Shamals are destined to be ridden into the ground on retro grouch bikes with ancient 8-speed stuff from like 5 years ago 😄
