I road my bike almost everyday (Including in the fall and winter

On occasion I road my bike 20+ plus miles. I do have muscle

What do you suppose you do to 'road' a bike.

Fall off it so that it slides along the road?

Sorry, I wasn't trying to ridicule fat people, or any other for that matter. For
some reason this thread starts with Mannix's post in my newsreader (But with no
'Re:' in the header, so I didn't have the context.

I just found the homonym error (road for rode) rather apposite for a bike.

  8. Whatever.

5-10 miles a day on a bike is not over exercise, whatever your weight.
Riding a bike will take the weight OFF your knees - cycling 10 miles a
day will not damage your knees, whether you are overweight or not.

Get back on the bike, it'll do you good.

It can happen. I used to walk 1-2 miles almost every day. Sometimes I
would walk 4 plus miles. My doctor warned me at the time that I was going
to run myself into the ground. I should have listened to him because my
    knees are damaged from overexercise.

Hang in there, Greg! <<<BIG FAT HUGS>>>

  10. That's not caused by the exercise - it's the stress on the joints. I
know someone whose bones crumbled in both feet just from standing up.
No exercise involved, just too much weight.

Most "normal" people would walk that much in their normal daily
activities - don't call it "overexercise", it's not even "exercise" -
    just eat less, FFS.

I've only noticed this thread since some uk.rec.cycling people

    steaming pile of horseshit.

1-2 miles?!?! Oh, poor you! It must have been awful. Please bear
in mind that this thread (for some reason) is crossposted to a group
where the readers would think nothing of cycling 60-100 miles in a
day. And some of us go running and enjoy other sports too.

But they must have been *special* miles, I suppose; extra hard miles
for some reason or other. Or did you simply let yourself get so out
of condition that you could no longer manage such a basic task?

I train (in various ways) about 10 hours per week. My joints are
    just fine.

    Yeah.,. sad isnt it?
Watching the 18 yos at work puffing after running up two flights of
stairs is sad too. And my flatmate who really believe that walking
downstairs to have a cigarette is exercise.

Walking aint exercise. Not unless its 20 miles with a backpack. Yeah
I know the doctor tells you its exercise but he means that compared with
sitting in a chair its exercise. And its a lot better than sitting
    in a chair.

    Doesnt the truth hurt?

Before you start taking the [censored], bear in mind that this woman may have (for
    example) severe osteoarthritis, or osteoporosis.

Either of these conditions could make walking even relatively short distances
    painful and inadvisable.

The sufferers of these conditions (amongst others) have enough problems and
don't need smart-arsed idiots talking down to them and making light of their
    problems.

I think at my age and given my [censored] running style that ´might´ actually
be an excuse for the odd bit of knee pain. But enjoy 🙂

Hey I was preaching to the lowest denominator. THo it can be reasonably
serious exercise depending on just how heacy the pack is. 🙂

I have elderly relatives, and understand and empathise with these
conditions. Exercise, however, does not cause them.

I notice that one of the crossposted groups is "misc.fitness.weights".

I train with weights 3-4 times a week, and while I'm no bodybuilder,
I'm sure the inhabitants of that group will confirm that this kind of
loadbearing workout helps to *prevent* the weakening of joints and
the reduction of bone density in later life.

Some readers of that group will be also be very aware of *real*
overtraining, which is a big consideration if you're a serious
bodybuilder. Walking "1-2 miles" per day certainly does not count
as overexercising if one has taken reasonable care of ones health.
