  1. www.halfords.com have the Mio 268 GPS package for just under £250 at
the moment. Seems to be a good deal as thats about the going rate
    before VAT is added..

That does seem a good price. However I think the 268 is locked to the
supplied maps / software and you cannot run other programs on it. I have
the Mio 168 which is a normal Pocket PC so can run any PPC software I
    choose.

A great resource for these things is

    http://pocketgpsworld.com/

where there a reviews and searchable discussion forums

How does it run ? Robust for walking ? Work in forest canopy ? Work inside ?

I only use it in the car where it is great. I would not say it was very
robust - nowhere near as robust as a 'normal' GPS receiver. In the light
of its fragility I don't expect I will be using it in place of my Geko
201, eTrex or GPS12. The battery life is also a good deal shorter (4
hours claimed I think) and it is not user replaceable.
