  1. A couple of years ago Knut Anders Fostervold was playing football (i.e
soccer for you Americans!) on the highest Norwegian level with
Champions League experience. He was forced to retire due to a bad knee
injury, but found that cycling was still possible to do.

He wanted to continue to be in good shape, so he took part in some
races, was part of the group that set a new record for the Trondheim -
Oslo race last year (540 km in 13 hrs 34 mins). He upped the training
hours, and last winter he amazed sports scientists by recording one of
the best ever results for max O2 for any sports, on par with the best
ever cross country skiers (and Hushovd, BTW).

Yesterday, in the Norwegian Championships, he secured a place on the
podium in the 50 km ITT, only beaten by Thor Hushovd and Kurt Asle
    Arvesen. Results here:

I guess the time gaps says something about the depth of top
timetrialists in this country, but never the less an amazing tale! It
was a brutally tough TT, BTW.

    Cheers,
    Kjell Arne

Cool story. Thanks for sharing it. BTW ... if it isn't played by a bunch
of obese, steroid-pumped freaks using a non-round "ball," it ain't football.
    It's "soccer." ;-)

Yes, thank-you very much for the story. How old is this fellow ? How does he
train in the winter, do you know ? Does he ride in the snow ( tough it out )
or on rollers indoors, or both ?

He's 34, but I don't know very much about his winter training. He
lives on the west coast, so he should be able to use the bike most of
the winter. He's from the same part of the country as Arvesen.

Fostervold did post on a web forum about interval training earlier
this year, so may be we get to know more some day. I will try to find
    out more.

    Cheers,
    Kjell Arne
