  1. Cheeseburger with chopped onion and red bell pepper mixed in, served
open-face on 12-grain toasted bread. Maybe some Claussen's dill pickle
slices. And a salad with the usual iceberg lettuce, ripe, juicy tomatoes,
scallions, black olives, cheese, and ham. At least that's what I'm having.

Crash will have a boring ol' plain cheeseburger, probably with ketchup,
mustard, and the dreaded bread and butter pickles. He'll have some
deli-type potato salad (it's too hot for me to make my own right now).

For dessert, we'll have homemade cinnamon bread from one of Crash's
    admirers. (Thanks!)

It's never occured to me to put bell peppers of any color into a hamburger,
but I got two flawless fruits for a great price the other day, and this
just sounded good. I'll let you know if it bears repeating.

We had burgers on the grill last night along with homemade coleslaw and
baked beans that I had made and frozen. Tasty dinner!

Sounds yummy! I'm having enchiladas made from leftover roasted chicken,
fresh garlic from a farmer's market last Tuesday, corn tortillas which have
been in my freezer since March, bechamel sauce with salsa verde stirred in,
and a mix of Cheddar and Colby cheeses. They'll be placed on a bed of rice
which has been cooked in chicken stock, powdered California chiles, and some
tomato juice. Maybe a dollop of sour cream; I haven't decided yet.

I'm going to have to run to the store for salad fixins. Tomatoes are not
acceptable to me yet this year, so I guess it'll just have lettuce,
cucumbers, black olives, basil, cilantro, mint, and radishes. I'll
improvise the dressing, but I'm leaning toward some kind of vinaigrette.

That's a great frosting! It was either you are Barb Schaller that passed
it along to me quite a while ago. I almost always use that to frost the
Hershey's Perfectly Chocolate chocolate Cake and we both love it. I've also
used it on this chocolate angel food cake before.

Alas, I am out of shortening and low on butter, so decided on the other
frosting for this cake. I don't want to have to run to the store.
Actually, this frosting is fat-free, so is probably a good choice for a
    totally fat-free dessert.

This is the frosting I'm using. Got it off the web somewhere, but no
    attribution.

    Fluffy White Frosting

    1 cup sugar
    1/4 tsp cream of tartar
    1/3 cup water
    dash of salt
    2 egg whites
    1 tsp vanilla

In a saucepan, combine sugar, cream of tartar, water and a dash of salt.
Cook until bubbly and the sugar dissloves.

In a mixer bowl combine egg whites and vanilla. Add sugar syrup very slowly
to the unbeaten egg whites while beating constantly at high speed using an
electic mixer. Do this for 7 minutes or until stiff peaks form.

This will frost the top and side of two 8 or 9 inch layers or one 10-inch
    tube cake.

    Thanks again, Carol!

I still haven't lost my enchilada-cooking virginity. I know Crash will
love them. Can a person make hamburger enchiladas??

The tomatoes I bought were shipped here from Kentucky. They're awesome!

OH YEAH! I was going to make a small batch of Hag's tomato and olive
salad. I have a little can of sliced black olives. Dice tomatoes, add the
olives, some scallion slices, a touch of sugar and a touch of salt. I
completely forgot that I was going to make those for dinner.

Carol, off to start dicing the 'maters

Nothing is ever set in stone at the Damsel-Crash household. Crash isn't
hungry, so his burgers will have to be microwaved to heat them back up.

I did my burgers as I said above, but placed thick slices of the vine
ripened Kentucky tomatoes (they look, smell, and taste like TOMATOES -
when's the last time you've found something like that in a grocery store?)
on the burgers when I flipped them. When they were done (medium), I melted
    sliced cheese on them.

Hot tomatoes on a burger are wonderful! I'm going to have to do this
regularly. So juicy. The tomato seems to be cancel ling out the red bell
    peppers, though. 🙁

Thanks, Lynne. Happy belated birthday! You can easily adapt your recipe
to chocolate. Substitute an equal amount of cocoa for 1/3 cup of cake
flour. Sift them together before folding into the batter.
