  4. A coworker of mine offered this "solution": For each bomb which goes off in
a Western nation, let's detonate one in Mecca.

You cannot fight indiscriminate hate crimes, with indiscriminate reprisals -
it's like trying to put a fire out with gasoline.

Acting in a reactionary manner achieves NOTHING but more *innocent* deaths -
it merely causes escalation - think about that. Sorry Bob, but your
co-worker is an idiot, or he is unable to see the real picture due to some
    form of psycho-emotional myopia.

Thanks for putting a rational spin on this, Shaun. I can't imagine what
you and others in England must be going through right now. 🙁

  7. strange as it may seem I've been getting updates through the
singletrackworld forum, there are a few people who are in the midst of
it, as well as a few [censored] spouting all kinds of [censored].

Any word on who's responsible yet? The news here in the states is spotty
and I can't get to the BBC UK site.

A "jihad cell" of Al-Qaeda has claimed responsibility.

I'm sorry, it's come to my attention it was a terrorist attack from

    threatening Italy and Denmark.

They are still protesting the G8 I would think, and *likely for the right
reasons*, but in the most wrong way possible...

    Thanks Nancy,

Myself, a great sadness and a helluvah lot of anger, just as I feel every
time I hear of this sort of thing. For those in the midst or who have lost
someone, I would not presume to say...

It scares me, for nations as a whole, for this planet, every time something
like this happens, and every time I see the way 'we' react...

    Oooohhhh I disagree.
Often, nothing gets your point across like a good "bad example".

In fact, I'm surprised that a restaurant bombing in TelAviv
isn't followed by a mysterious restaurant bombing in the Palestinian sector.

    <rj>

  14. 4 or 5 bombs went off in tube stations/on tubes, then as people were
forced to abandon the tube and the buses were packed - 3 buses blown
up. Rough estimates of around 50 dead and 1000 casualties. No traffic
in and out of London, most people are restricted to staying in their
building (including Bomba I think). Signs on major roads into London
saying 'keep away, area closed, turn on radio'. Mobile network down
either due to heavy demand or switched off to stop further devices
being activated remotely. Al Quaeda (spelling?) have claimed
responsibility but not sure how truthful this is. Tony Blairs on his
    way back from Gleneagles.

Thats as much as I know for now, its hearbreaking to hear people
wondering about family/friends who they know were in the areas but
    can't get in touch with.

    Steve.

This really sucks. I just read it and am about to turn on CNN. Carol, email

Hope this is over soon enough bomba, you going to be stuck in the
    office overnight?

The police are letting us leave our buildings now and London Bridge
station is open, so I should be able to get home. Contingency plan of
catching one of the boats down to Greenwich, and in worst case scenario
    a six mile walk.

It'll be uncomfortable and probably take an age, but in comparison to
what others are going through, I'll just count myself lucky.

I agree. These bombings in London are just another example of where
violence begets violence. Considering that the Brits have decades worth
of experience securing their public transportation system due to their
experience with the IRA, I fear that other countries such as the United
States are at greater risk of such a terrorist incident happening.

My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

Your coworker is an idiot. Such a solution will only escalate more
violence. We already invaded their holy land and that's why so many
Muslims are [censored] at westerners. Haven't we learned anything, ever
with dealing with terrorists. The terrorists bomb us, we bomb them, the
    cycle never ends.

Haven't you been paying attention? The Israelis have always very quick
at reprisal whenever a terrorist attack occurs in Israel and they are
very up front about it. What has reprisal gotten the Israelis? More
terrorist attacks. Violence begets violence. Period.

BBC says six underground, one bus - casualties about the same...

Mobile networks prioritising for emergencey services, and flooded by private
    calls also, I hear.

Yup - they posted a message making the claim, on a Muslin web-site - still
    unconfirmed last I heard.

I heard Blair talking on the radio this a.m. saying he was due to set off
back, sobbing voice etc. The guy made me feel sick, sounded so false, so
    fake... made me mad...

    It is indeed mate.

I just hope the 'people in power' as well as soldiers in the M/east, do not
retaliate in a reactionary manner, and cause an escalation, more innocent
    lives lost... <sigh...>

    Cheers Steve.
