I'm back! After far too long away from here thanks to a nasty messenger
virus that took out my old PC.
I'm off to Dartmoor for the weekend for a bit of micro-navigation practice,
but in a couple of weeks I am going to the Picos de Europa for some high
level walking. Then it's back to Snowdonia at the end of August :-)
What I would like is to do is get to a few of the highest peaks in the
Picos. I'm a walker, not a climber, so I don't want anything more tricky
than say the north face of Tryfan (which I found to be okay, except for the
Adam to Eve leap, which had me flapping bit).
I'm after suggestions of good peaks to go for, preferably with some idea of
the route to take.
I am planning to go up Peña Vieja from Fuente De, which I think is basically
a walk. Anyone know if I should go to the east or west before climbing it?
I have had one suggestion to climb from the west ridge, but no advice as to
circle east or west to get to the ridge (from the north side).
Other than that, I would like to get up Terre de Cerredo, but I hear mixed
report of whether it is a walk with a gentle scramable or a climb. Any
suggestions? I was thinking of tackling this from either Fuente De or
Bulnes (via the Funicular).
Naranjo de Bulnes seems to be a definite climb, so that's out.
Any other ideas? I must get over some peaks over 2428m, the height of
Peñalara, the mountain I climbed a while back in Madrid, and the highest
hill I have topped (so far)
I've a map, which seems quite good (the yellow covered one, can't remember
by who at the moment), but planning a route there is not really for the
feint hearted.
By the way, bagged my first Munros in May. Wow. Even after spending a lot
of time in Snowdonia the land in Scotland is wild and high. Must get back
there soon.
Have fun,
Paul
