When it appeared that Lance was having pedal difficulty, I was wondering - "what if his cleat is
screwed up?"

I recall seeing someone changing shoes in a race not too long ago ... or maybe the mechanic fixed
his cleat and gave his shoe back.jw milwaukee

Sometimes, esp. the shoes of team leaders. Olano broke a shoe or cleat in the Dauphine Libere one
year and got a spare out of the car.JT

I would say that they would take a bike off the car before they tried to fix the pedal. Shoes would
be different story. Greg lemond burn up his favorite shoes at hotel (put them in a oven to dry out).
He had them remade ,instead of getting new ones. Shoes could really affect a rider mentally for the
rest of the race or stage. It also matter whether the rider is the main guy or a minor player.
