Tropical Dinner Party
Sandra has come up with a tropical take on the best
way to delight and satisfy your dinner party guests.
She gets started with an iceberg wedge and teardrop
tomatoes with country club dressing. Sandra then goes
sweet and spicy to dress up Cornish game hens with a
fruit tropical sunset cocktail.
Hmm, this ep wasn't as crazy as usual. How many weeks now has she used
jalaponoes with her Very Special "Me washie handsies!" warning?
Is it REALLY necessary to marinade cornish game hens? It's not like they're
going to be need it... Speaking of which, isn't it a bad thing to reuse a
marinade? Oh yeah, that'll teach you not to roll up your sleeves when you cook.
Did I see her mix an equal amount of rice (amount unspecified, but we were
warned to make sure to make enough) and sliced almonds? For that matter, they
weren't even toasted ones! Did the theme suddenly get changed from "tropical"
to "almonds" mid-way through? She then puts the cornish game hens on the rice,
one half hen per person. I guess that's a good thing.
Sandra tries to make a faux baked alaska with ice cream, instant pudding, and a
roll of sugar cookie dough rolled flat and cut with a springform pan. She then
set the disk into the pan and puts down a layer of ice cream, followed by
another cookie disk and then the pudding. I guess I nodded off at some point
because I didn't see any bananas used in this concoction. She warns us to hurry
so it doesn't melt and to thoroughly wrap it in foil and shrinkwrap so it
doesn't leak all over your freezer. If you have to thoroughly wrap your
Bananaramalaska because it's dripping all over everything in the freezer, you
have done something serious wrong. Speaking of which, frozen pudding is nasty;
trust me, I know from personal experience. She then makes a merrangue
while making these terrible grinding and clunking noices with a hand mixer and
pops it under a broiler, telling us to literally keep an eye on it, but not
before wandering off to tell us about some plates she aquired for her
tablescape. Not surprisingly, she wanders back to the oven and discovers it's
done, but I seriously doubt it's been cooked through.
When we return from commercial, we can tell by the graphic on the screen that
it's now "Sandra's Cocktail Time!". Sandra announces that she's going to make a
Sunset Cocktail and it's pretty because it's layered. She finishes her drinks
by showing us how to "float" about an inch and a half of dark rum on the top of
the drink using an inverted spoon. Seeing all that rum floating on the top
gave me a buzz just from looking at it! Im surprised she didnt throw some
"fruit cocktail" chunks in it.
The theme of today's show was almonds.....right up till we got to the table.
Then it was cherries. Go figure. Sandie, don't tell us about your tablescspe
while your mouth is full!
