Judging by the storm that just blew through I suspect there may be a few
commuters disagreeing with my view of today's weather. Hell it's

The obvious solution is to buy a new bike, thus relegating your current good bike to a rain bike and the GVBR to Bicycle Recycle.

Or maybe lock the GVBR up somewhere around the CBD, wait till someone kicks in the wheels and then abandon it there. Seems to be the latest trend - I have now seen three long term abandons.

You may need to rob a bank - use the GVBR as your get-away vehicle

you mean MY mtb?????? the mud it accrued several mths ago is finally falling off. each time it gets bumped in the hallway, dried mud falls off. self-cleaning - BRILLIANT 😄 I just have to vacuum it up!

It's actually quite legit (for me to claim it, anyway). aboc
doesn't make a profit. Last year, or the year before, it ran at
quite a loss, but I'm doing it for love, not money. I fix computers
for money ....

So the bike is deductable, but I have to keep a diary of every time I
use it, and it's only claimable against aboc income. ie: the coaching
pays for the bike. It'll be some number of years before the coaching
actually *does* pay for the bike though! Unless I get a lot of new
clients, and/or jack up my fees to something within 50% or so of Kathy
Watt!

but yes, it's essentially "free", if you consider it deductable against
my fees, which it is, as long as I only use it for coaching purposes,
which I do, as I have another bike for commuting now!

NO NO NO You are not doing it for love, You are doing the aboc thing for money, as a business, to make money.

If you are doing it for love, it is not a business and the ATO will treat all your expensive bike purchases as a hobby and they will not be deductible.

There are lots of cases where people have gone into ventures such as setting up farms, or running other businesses in addition to having a 'day job' and the ATO has disallowed deductions on the business ventures.

So you are not doing it for love, I tell you. Recant. Recant. Before the ATO takes away all your toys.
