9 speed cassette

Yes, I have a Shimano HG-70 13-23 9 speed on my Felt. I got it from my LBS. 🙂

Yup, even though FL is flat, we haven't a clue as to your capability/strength. That being said, if I had to choose I'd go with either a 12-23 or a 12-25.

It's kind of like this ... "Hey, I want to get a new pair of shoes. What kind should I buy? Loafers, Crosstrainers, maybe Wing Tips? And what size would be the "best" fit?" Like we would have any friggin' idea.

I have a Felt with a triple crank and a 9 speed cassette that I just upgraded. I was running a 12/23 and swapped it out for a 12/21. The reason was so I can have all my gears running without gaps all the way from 12-19 and then have that 21T cog as my safety gear on the end. The shifting is so smooth, and in the big ring it helps without having to make that 17-19T jump in a 52T ring. Pedaling a 21T on a 30T crank is more than easy enough for any kind of hill I would ever encounter. I can make use of that granny ring if I ever need it now. If I was running a double crank then the 21T as the easiest cog might have been too tough to rely on in a desperate situation, but that is not the case. Then again, with a double crank you could be running a more common 10 speed cassette and have an extra gear on the end to play with. I am very happy with the upgrade. Shifting as smooth as possible (no gaps) is so much more enjoyable and my speed has increased. Good stuff all around. My opinion is that if you are always running flats without many hills or have leg strength or an extra small ring you never use, go with a cassette that runs the gears in a straight line.
