  1. This is something that just occurred to me. Does it make a difference if
a caloric deficit is created by cutting food intake or through
excercise? If I am not mistaken the pathways by which fuel is obtained
and used differs based on the body's needs, right? So, if you are in a
caloric deficit just by eating less and sitting around aren't you more
apt to lose fat than if you wroked out which might cause you to burn
    more protein?

No. Your body compensates by slowing down your metabolism.

Actually the other way around. If you simply do calorie deficit, the body
drops muscle (protein) and holds strong to fat (future energy source to
preserve life)--this is relative to the otherway around. If however, you
are exercising, the body holds on to muscule since you need it--use it or
    lose it.
That is extremly simplified, and of course there are outliers, mutants, and
all of this is a distribution (like so damn near everything in bilogical
    system).
Eat, lift, sleep. Repeat until you hear, "Time of death was..."

along with other things to consider, in Medicine and Science in Sports and
Exercise, Japanese researchers have shown that dieting leads to a greater
reduction in visceral fat [1]. Exercise, on the other hand, has a greater
    impact on subcutaneous fat.

so instead of wasting time hour upon hour with "cardio", (different
discussion), seems like the magic lies in moderate caloric restriction,
brief, frequent, intense resistance exercise, high intensity interval
    training, and persistance.

Not true. LSD runs are the best for loosing weight.

I beg to differ. I am unclear what loosing weight is??(just a forum
frequent spelling F up. It is losing weight)

Google tabata protocol. First name Izuma. or look at this.
    http://www.cbass.com/FATBURN.HTM

unless the desired result is NOT dramatic VO2 increase, as Clarance Bass
    said,
"The next time someone pipes up about the fat-burn zone, ask them if they
are familiar with the Tabata and Tremblay research reports."

In short from the article, I suggest reading it all "
As you might expect, the total energy cost of the ET program was
substantially greater than the HIIT program. The researchers calculated that
the ET group burned more than twice as many calories while exercising than
the HIIT program. But (surprise, surprise) skinfold measurements showed that
the HIIT group lost more subcutaneous fat. "Moreover," reported the
researchers, "when the difference in the total energy cost of the program
was taken into account..., the subcutaneous fat loss was ninefold greater in
the HIIT program than in the ET program." In short, the HIIT group got 9
times more fat-loss benefit for every calorie burned exercising. "

unless you want to just burn more calories and those that are burned are not
mostly fat, spend the time and run for a silly, long, wasteful time.

Big deal, there are HUNDREDS of studys contradicting those TWO studys,
so who will you bet on?

Then they were wrong. You burn X amount of calories per mile, the
difference is, that when you do LSD runs, your body will burn more
calories in a 24 hour period than a non-runner, or a runner who did
that same distance very fast. After fast, hard runs your body shuts
down to recover, then returns to normal. After LSD runs it doesn't
shut diown, and burns cals at a steady pace over the next 24 hours.

I will now talk about MY experience. I am a 185lb man in a body that
wants to be 350 lbs. I struggled with weight loss techniques for
years, and nothing helped. I tried the "run fast" techniques, and the
LSD techniques, and only the LSD technique worked.
    Case closed.

    My studies always reproduce!

But what I found on CNN is that

"Much of the frustration over health headlines may not be the
information's fault. It can be due to the fact that folks do not
always fully understand the nuances of the scientific process and to
the fact that medical reporters do not always fully explain the study
    results."

hundred in the last 20 years saying exactly that.
