Shimano Pedals

From what I can remember of the older model Shimano pedals, is that they had a centreplate on the pedal (you can see this centreplate on present models M545 and M424). The 520 is an excellent pedal, probably the best 'bang for the buck' pedal out there at the moment. It will be better than the 515's, not only because they are new, but because they lack the centreplate, which allows the pedal to clear mud much easier. You may not think there is much of a difference, but it is very noticeable as I have 540's on the Specialized, and old 535's on the Surly, and I certainly can tell during a muddy race.

I have no idea what the 505's look like, but as long as the binding mechanism looks similar then it should be no problem. If not, just as the LBS.

I have 520's on my MTB and I love them...I got them on Nashbar.com during a sale and I believe I paid $50. As SUM MALE said they are the best bang for your buck and are definately great beginner pedals. Spend the few extra dollars and get the 520's
