I just bought a used Cannondale road bike but there are no stickers on it other than cannondale on the bottom tube. I have changed the shifters to Ultegra /STI but the OEM component group appears to be Shimano 600. It has a polished alum.frame and the front fork says SUB1(not sure if fork is oem)

not sure..but it sounds like you have a pre cad cannondale 2.8 frame. perhaps this frame is from ''95-'96. just a strong guess. A very nice frame it was...although a bit harsh on rear spokes due to the stiff aluminum.

Are the rear dropouts sort of seperate from the rear triangle. I sort of mean do they stick out the back an inch or so, or are the dropouts just at the corner of the rear triangle? If they stick out trhe back its a 2.8 series. Sub 1 alloy fork would also suggest 2.8.
