  1. I made a decent cream of cauliflower soup, came out
pretty good for mostly winging it. Hard to mess it up.

That is, unless you have a big bowl of it completely
forgeting you left the pot on the stove on low. Grrrr.
Concentrate of cream of cauliflower soup.

It was done, why on earth did I leave it on. Geez.

If it did not scorch, you can probably thin it with some milk or broth?

Even if it did scorch just DON'T stir it! Dump it into a clean pot, then
    re-thin it.

    Cheers!

Luckily for me I thought, clean up the mess and put
the rest of the soup away, it was this close to burning.
Still a heck of a mess.

I guess everyone has, but what a waste, luckily I at
least had lunch out of it first.

That was a bad soup day for me too. I was finishing up some nice
chicken soup and wanted to strain the broth. Which I did, but forgot
to put a bowl under the colander. My stock went down the drain,
    literally 🙁

OMG! I would have cursed a blue streak! I did something similar (but
worse) years ago when making borscht. In this particular case I wanted
clear borscht, so was straining the potful through cheesecloth in a
colander. The worst part was that my colander was sitting on the counter
(with no bowl), and steaming hot deep purple liquid ran all over the
counter, down the cabinets, and half way across the floor. Not only did I
have no borscht, I also had a cleaning project that lasted two days!

Oh Sue! I would have cried! Not that chicken soup is all that much
work, but it's such a lovely act of caring for self and/or others.
Well, the only benefit is you probably won't do it again :-(

TammyM, who has turned on the oven without checking inside TWICE
(Christmas Day, following year on Christmas Day) only to burn up
plasticware and create a monstrous mess :-((((((((((( I now check the
oven even if I "know" there's nothing inside

I'm sorry- that made me laugh! ;>

Years ago, when I was making gingerbread, I mixed the molasses, sugar,
and eggs, then turned off the handmixer and set it on its heel before
adding the dry ingredients. But not quite off... the beaters went on
(I might have hit the switch). I had sticky, black molasses/sugar/egg
flung all over the kitchen- cabinets, white walls, white ceiling and
    me.

You know, I've caught myself starting to do it in the past, so I know
the danger. I just "slipped," distracted I guess :P

And I slipped and fell in the driveway the next day, twisting my foot.
Despite that, I took my nephews to the Bronx Zoo, but by the time we
got there, it hurt so bad I couldn't walk. I sat down while they went
    around 🙁

It's been years since I've had to store things in the oven, and I
    still always check!

I did something similar last week, except I the broth was in a deep
bowl cooling next to the sink. Bad idea! I usually put it on my
cutting board to cool. In the hustle of cleaning up, I dumped the
liquid thinking it was dirty water and didn't realize what I'd done
until the aroma of that fabulous broth reached my nose as it spiraled
down the drain. I cried for sad.

That oven thing can be awful (an awful big surprise at the very
least). My husband used to put clean items in the oven - I have no
idea why.... maybe he couldn't figure out where to put them. I've
heated cookie trays and even some serving plates, but fortunately
haven't melted any plastic. I think my grousing finally cured him of
that because it hasn't happened recently.

    My bad soup day:
    Using rice maker:
Washed the rice, set it aside, measured the water and poured the water into
    the rice maker.
No rice that day - had to buy another rice cooker.

Christmas day in India. I was making stock for gravy. My daughter
strained it over the sink too🙁 There was no stock cubes to save the
day nor flour for thickening ( I had given the cook the day off and
never thought about what he kept in stock or not🙁 After than I made it
my business to check!!! Having said that my daughter never did that
    again 🙂)

While a fortuitous accident rather than an un-correctable error i once
mistook an unlabeled jar of curry powder for ground turmeric and added a
scant half teaspoon to about a quart of cream of broccoli soup, it was
so good i now routinely add a bit of curry to my broccoli soup.

I often braise cauliflower flowerets with curry, onion, ginger,
turmeric, cumin, salt, pepper & mustard seed

Both times, I placed a plastic tray of my grandmother's famous (ok,
not) Christmas Eve almonds in the oven so the cats wouldn't get them.
Next morning, in a rush to make pies, I preheated the oven, only to
hear the clatter of almonds on the floor of the oven. Opened it up,
and plastic goo on the racks. Two Christmases in a row.

I hesitate to say "never again." !!!

Ophelia.... you were in INDIA when this happened? Not being part of
the British Commonwealth or Europe, the idea of working in countries
other than my own is not part of my internal makeup. One couple I
know lives in Denmark, but one of their children is working in Abu
Dhabi and the other is in San Diego. I wouldn't be happy with my
children flung around the world like that! I didn't like it when they
were at opposite ends of the state.
