  1. good god I have to stay away from this because I'm like an erupting volcano
when I have only a little bit

one of my favorite wafer cookies is made with it, same with russell stofers
candies-- I wish everyone would use splenda!

  2. They use SA's for the texturizing and mouth-feel properties that are
similar to sugar, not just for sweetening. Polydextrose is only about 10%
as sweet as sugar but has all the texturizing properties and acts like
fibre in the body without the negative side effects of SA's but it seems
that only a few companies have figured this out. Splenda does not have any
of the texturizing properties so cannot be a sole replacement for the sugar
if they want to retain the product's texture and mouth-feel.
The perfect combination is to use polydextrose for the texturizing
properties and minimal amounts of SA's and/or Splenda for the sweetening
required. I do this myself when I need to replace sugar in baking and it
works very well. I've even made fudge and it came out great so it can be
used for candy making as well.

    I don't...
I'm finding that Splenda _totally_ kills my ketosis. :-(
    Has anyone else experienced this?

  4. I've read this can happen with aspartame but have never heard of it with
Splenda, unless you're reacting to the maltodextrin that they use as the
bulking agent. Does it only happen with the Splenda that you use in
packets or the boxed stuff? Have you noticed the same with just pure
sucralose? What are you eating or drinking that has the Splenda? Maybe
it's another ingredient in the food or beverage? Many questions. :-)

  5. Bev-Ann,

Have you tried anything with Erythritol? It's supposed to not cause the
same problems as Malitol, et al. I know a few products that use it, like
Hershey's "1 Gram" bars, and so far OK.

    Packets.
It HAS to be that as I've not consumed ANY carbs (not even veggies) for
a few days but was using Splenda in my sugar free kool aid, so quit
using that, but Isopure uses Splenda as a sweetner as well. I wanted to
test it and see if I was right...

I've been really strict now for a solid 5 days and still have no ketones.

    See above.
Where can one get PURE sucralose?
I thought using the packets was pretty safe?

    Thanks!

  7. Yes, I use a combination of erythritol, isomalt and liquid sucralose as the
sweetener in my baking. They work together synergistically so that less of
each is required to get the full sweetening effect of sugar. So to get the
equivalent sweetness of 1 cup of sugar, I only need 2 tablespoons each of
erythritol and isomalt plus 16 drops of Sweetzfree.
I've read that erythritol is the only SA that won't cause the
gastro-intestinal problems of maltitol, etc. but it's only 70% as sweet as
sugar and quite expensive compared to polydextrose so I use the polyd for
the texturizing properties. I only need half the amount of polyd for sugar
called for to achieve the same results.

  8. Sweetzfree is pure sucralose and filtered water, no fillers. One drop is
equivalent to 1.5 teaspoons of sugar or 3/4 of a packet of Splenda. I use
16 drops in a pitcher of Kool-Aid to equal about 1/2 cup sugar.
    You can order Sweetzfree here:

    http://www.sweetzfree.com/

Don't be fooled by the apparently high price. It works out to about half
the price of Splenda packets or the boxed version.

  10. Aw shucks. Sweetzfree has been mentioned many times in this forum by
    others, but thanks anyway. :-)))
The Sweetzfree website says that you only need 25 drops to equal 1 cup
sugar, but that doesn't work out if you do the math. If 1 drop is
equivalent to 1.5 teaspoons of sugar, then it takes 32 drops for 1 cup. And
I've been using it for more than a year and have found this to be true, at
least for me and everyone I've had try it. But it still works out a LOT
    cheaper than Splenda.
I hope Sweetzfree solves the problem you seem to be having with Splenda.

Buying sucralose sure has become a pain. They only offer it three times
a month. Windows open on Sept 1st at 9 AM. What are they, Ticketmaster?

It certainly would be nice if McNeil would ramp up production some more.

  14. You'll find that it's not that easy to get sometimes. McNeil is at maximum
production until at least the end of the year when they're supposed to have
increased the size of their production plant(s). So the small guys like
Sweetzfree have been rationed. Order it while she has some. You may see
that her website will suddenly say she's out of stock from one day to the
next. I use a lot of it and the large bottle lasts me several months.

Just to be sure, but you do know that you can test negative on the sticks
and still be in ketosis, right?

Unless you're eating splenda by the spoonful, it seems doubtful that, if
that's your only source of carbs, it would be enough to cause you to drop
    out of ketosis.

Is it possible that you've been drinking a lot of water and so you're just
diluting the ketones to an undetectable level?

    Depends on sensitivity.
The sugar cantained in Sausages makes me drop out of ketosis! ;-(
Hell, I can't even eat bacon because it's sugar cured.

AFAIK, it's the ONLY thing I was doing differently!
I've stopped using it altogether, including not using the Zero Carb
Isopure protein powder and the tablet was a light purple showing small
    ketones last night.

    Finally. ;-)

Nah. The morning after I've taken a torosemide, my urine gets _very_
concentrated. Specific gravity of 1.025 on up. It was still showing
    negative.

Ketones only spill into the urine if you're not burning them all for
fuel. If you're eating under 100 grams of carb a day, you're in ketosis.

    Yes, you can.
Spin the blood down and place some serum on the acetest tablet.

We do it all the time on request from the Emergency Room.

IME tho' if the urine ketone is negative, the serum will be too.
