According to Bradsher, internal industry market research concluded that SUVs tend to be bought by people who are insecure, vain, self-centred and self-absorbed, who are frequently nervous about their marriages, and who lack confidence in their driving skills."
Overheard on Radio National (or was it BBC World Service?)that US drivers are turning away from SUV's. Why? Well, petrol concerns were a prime motivator. Environmental concerns didn't even rate. So why were motorists turning to smaller models? Because people were sick of driving a badly engineered P.O.S that handled like a truck.
I've spotted a crappy toy model of this 3855.5 kg monstrosity at our local Coles. Must pop down with the dig cam, flip the bird & submit my pic to the site 🙂))

In my commute to TAFE each evening, a real one, in black, drags me off across an intersection most evenings. On the other days I don't see it.
Okay, I know I should be able to drag it off, but 1) I have a heavy trailer in tow, 2) it is slightly uphill, 3) I'm pushing knobblies (well patterned fatties), 4) I'm unfit, and 5) I'm saving me efforts for torturing metal (welding classes).

Most people, and companies, buy vehicles for the image it thinks it gives them. WestPac bought all those new VW Beetles. Otherwise we'd all be driving Getz or riding K-Mart bikes.
Theo 2003 Ford Courier and Conti Galli-Pro. I really wanted a green ute but the cheapo base model only came in white. :-)

Driving a Getz I can see. There are reasons for not riding K-Mart bikes that have nothing to with image. 🙂 I take your point though.

At last some market research to back up what we already suspected!

Or need to tow large things.
If you have a double horsefloat or a big caravan, then a Falcadore isn't good enough.
If you also want something a bit more comfortable for long trips than a Series II Landy you end up with what the Yanks call an SUV.

Ja. My old man has horses and he tows them around behind some dirty great big truck. Awful thing, but at least his gets used for what it was meant for (yeah, they're really meant for poseurs, but OSTENSIBLY!)
