and this "could spread infection between homes". Let's see:

1) Travelling by car she will presumably not carry all her equipment
with her.

2) Presumably this means she will travel back to some base to get
the equipment for the next patient. At the base the equipment will
be sterilised in some extra way. This could be rather expensive, as
at least two sets of some equipment might be needed.

3) Let's say this turns "up to 15 miles a day" on a bike into 30
miles in a car, though it could be 45 or more. How does this help
her see more patients?

There is also the question of how this fits in with the "Green
Travel Plan" the "Trust" probably has?

I'm guessing it either needs sterilising or it doesn't. If it does then
she'll either need to sterilise it onsite or cycle back to the hospital
between visits. I'm surprised the paper doesn't appear to have bothered
asking for a comment from the trust - it would be interesting to hear the
other side.

I knew that he had an interest in cycling but apart from anything else, it

Will it? Surely that depends on the area she covers. If it is rural and
dispersed you might be right. However, she cycles 15 miles a day which
suggests that she is working mostly in town where a bike will be virtually
as fast as a car -- possibly faster when parking etc. are taken into
account.

It also says she is saving £1000 pa. That pays for quite a few taxi rides
when she needs to take a big bit of kit with her.

If it needs sterilising then it would have to be done on-site otherwise
it would no longer be sterile when the patient was reached. Unless it
was wrapped in some kind of aseptic packaging. But then she wouldn't
have to go back to base to get it sterilised...

I imagine that the nearly refers to large / heavy equipment and that the
fear of infection is someone in management demonstrating exactly why
they aren't in a more hands-on role!
