There was certainly something weird going on. I spooked some pheasants
this morning. Most just ran on down the road, but one few up, swung to
the left and saw a tree in the way and then swung to the right and
clipped me round the ear with its wing. It stung more than my old
headmaster!

The animals are planning world domination - just look at the cows. They get
together in groups and foster sedition.

Just thank the Lord they can't ride bicycles or we would all be doomed.

The Upper Thames last year was a good (or bad depending on your POV)
place for road kill; 3 deer in a short stretch plus a couple of
hopefuls in a nearby field (I suppose the words Deer Park on the map
gave it away). Lots of Kites too, is there a connection?

I suspect road kill is about to get quite common soon as all the "wild"
animals are let out to prance around for a bit before being sportingly
shot.

must have had three hundredweight of barley scattered across it.

Kites are mainly scavengers, although their fans prefer to describe them
as predators. They're social birds, hundreds of them roost and breed
together in a convenient patch of woodland. On good foraging days they
spread out across the landscape looking for food, which in this area

Kite heaven is a really large dead animal - cow, horse, water buffalo.

They do take live prey, but only if it's too small to injure them by
putting up a fight. They occasionally get poisoned, probably by picking
up rats that have eaten rat poison.
