It's DWP (The Los Angeles City Department of Water & Power) Edison serves most
    of Southern California.

We're in the Long Beach (kind of) area no outage here :-(

    Can't go home early.

Uncross your fingers - some poor DWP worker cut a cable.

From what they said on the radio, some utility workers crossed the wrong
wires, resulting in the black out.
So, I don't think it's any terrorist activity.

Yeah, I gather ... it was just disconcerting, this morning I hear
this freak terrorist saying that they were planning to hit LA or
Melbourne AU, 5 hours later LA goes dark, you kinda wonder.

Totally OT, but... how's the driver who crashed so badly in
Sunday's Indycar race in Chicago? I can't remember his name, just
the images of the crahs: the worst I've seen since Gilles
    Villeneuve's.

    Ryan Briscoe Medical Update

Indianapolis, IN, September 12, 2005-- Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Ryan
Briscoe, driver of the no.33 Toyota Panoz, was involved in a spectacular
accident at Chicagoland Speedway during Sunday's IndyCar Series race. The
incident occurred in Turn 3 as contact with Alex Barron sent Briscoe's car
airborne and against the retaining fence above the SAFER barrier.

Briscoe was airlifted to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill. under
the supervision of Senior Medical Representative Dr. Jason Linder, and was
listed in good condition, but remained overnight for observation and
in-depth examinations. Initial medical assessments indicate that Briscoe
sustained a concussion, two broken collarbones, a bruised lung and
contusions to his legs and arms.

Briscoe will be transported to Indianapolis' Methodist Hospital Monday
afternoon under the care of Indy Racing League medical staff, and will have
further evaluation and treatment supervised by Dr. Terry Trammell and Dr.
Kevin Sheid. Briscoe will undergo more extensive examinations and may remain
in hospital under observation for the next few days as a precaution.

    Ryan Briscoe Quote:

"I remember the initial contact with Alex (Barron) and thought that we might
just get away with not hitting the wall, but suddenly I was airborne and the
rest is a little fuzzy. I was really happy to see the Delphi Safety crew
guys so quickly and they took great care of me, even reminding me to give
the crowd a quick wave to let them know I was okay. The HANS (head and neck
support) device and the safety features on the car did what they were
designed to do and I credit them for helping me walk away from the accident
relatively unscathed. I was happy to hear that Alex and Kosuke (Matsuura)
were okay as well. I haven't seen a replay of the accident yet but I hear it
was pretty spectacular. It's been a difficult and disappointing weekend for
the Target team but I'm doing just fine."
