  1. BBC1 - Oct 4th

    23.05 The Adventure Show
Over 17,000 spectators, 450 world-class elite competitors from more than 35
nations and the chance of a British win at the Fort William Mountain Bike
World Cup - that's the recipe behind a weekend of thrilling,
adrenaline-fuelled action held amongst Britain's most spectacular mountains
    next to Ben Nevis

probably not available to non-Scottish regions

Speaking as someone who was there, it was enormous fun and a great
spectacle. Interestingly there were more German television crew there
than British, and German TV were planning at least two one hour
    programmes on it.

That'll be the first time I switch on the goggle box this week!

NB This programme will probably be delayed or cancelled for the Ronnie
    Barker Special (see other thread).

That was lucky, got home from work just in time to restart the video.

Enjoyed the prog, it just confirmed that I want a mountain bike.

The programme was pretty good - I admire the skill and courage of the
riders to basically fall down a mountainside in a controlled fashion
    while pedalling.

In the spot about food and crustaceans in particular, was not impressed
to see the rider start off along the pavements and then go through a
    pelican crossing while at red!

We thought it rather poor, actually. Minimal coverage of the mens' cross
country, no coverage at all of the womens' cross country[1]... I mean, I
appreciate that the whole point of four-cross is to pack thrills and
spills into a compact enough course to be cheap to televise, but the
fact that Gee Atherton was able to come third in a semi-final without
even having a chain on his bike tells you how much it has to do with
    cycling.

Again, with the downhill, it's a fantastic course - technically quite
difficult and definitely not just 'falling down a mountainside' - but
the television only showed very short sections of it, because they only
had three cameras to film what has to be more than two miles of course.
The tight twisty bits over appalling surface through the trees took real
    skill.

Fundamentally you could not do justice to what was a brilliant weekend of
racing in a one hour's programme. But it does seem to me the BBC could
have given us more - after all, German television is showing twice as
    much coverage from Fort William!

I too used to have the impression from watching television that the
downhillers were basically just rolling down the hill with gravity.
Standing beside the course it's very different. The reason downhilling
is seeing the lead in the development of new transmission technologies
is not just because these are the least weight sensitive racing bikes,
but also because they're putting a lot of power through their
    transmissions under very difficult conditions.

    Yes, we noticed that too!

[1] OK, I'm prejudiced. My club had two riders in the cross country, none
in the four cross or the downhill.
