    My guess would be that it's partly an increased emphasis on fiber in
    the diet combined with more frequent colonoscopies, which can catch
    pre-cancerous polyps and remove them before they cause problems.

    If anyone would like to see some of the different polyps, there are clear
    pics at this database of Med images. Just go down to "colon & appendix",
    then colon - polyps. NOT that I'm recommending looking at them, they look
    Gross! But it shows that it should be no big deal to have them removed
    while they're small. tj
